On Thursday 21 June 2012, The NHKS celebrated the 15th anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the People’s Republic of China with its annual “Dim Summer Night’s Dinner” at Golden River Restaurant in Laren. More than twenty members and guests listened attentively to guest speaker, the culinary photographer and publisher Jan Bartelsman. Jan recently visited Hong Kong where he took pictures for his new book “Hong Kong and Macao Magic”. Bartelsman talked about his work, his visit to Hong Kong and his meetings with the famous Dutch chef Richard Ekkebus, who is chef of 2 Michelin star restaurant Amber at The Landmark Mandarin Oriental hotel. Jan Bartelsman (1958) works both in the Netherlands and abroad and his pictures were used in many culinary books such as “Puurder” by chef Jonnie Boer, “Magie in de Keuken” and “Domaine de la Romanee Conti” to name but a few. Recently he completed a series of 11 books in which recipes by chefs from some 350 Dutch restaurants were published. For a glimpse of the work of Jan Bartelsman, see http://www.bartelsman.nl

In Golden River restaurant, the guests could also admire the work of painter Cees Nouwens. Nouwens was deeply inspired during his recent visit to Hong Kong. He made a serie of 25 very impressive paintings en drawings with Hong Kong as subject. At the end of the Dim Summer Night’s dinner the talented Niels Harder presented a preview of his hilarious magic show: The Weirdo of Wonder.
